Invitation to the SAD mailinglist

The Stichting Archaeological Dialogues invites you to join their mailing list for archaeological theory. We aim for this new interactive list to be a lively place where archaeologists and other interested individuals can discuss archaeological theory in all of its wonderful forms.

As many of you may know, Stichting Archaeological Dialogues has been active in the Netherlands since the early 1990’s. For much of the last 20 years it has hosted regular annual conferences (and other events) for researchers who wish to discuss the theoretical side of archaeology, and the application of theory within our discipline. In the past few years, due to increased academic commitments of the board, it hasn’t been possible to organise any such events.

The board has recently met with a number of new members to find a way to take the Stichting forward. We all agreed that the work done over the last 20 years has been important and useful, and that we would like to see the Stichting continue, but we need your intellectual input and help.

With this in mind, we invite you to join our emailing list, which has two purposes:

  • We would like it to form the basis of community of archaeologists and associated practitioners who are interested in discussing and utilising archaeological theory in their work, whether academic, government-funded, commercial or otherwise.
  • We hope that we can discuss together what type of events the Stichting should organise, and what you, as a community would find most useful and stimulating.

If you decide to join (and we hope you do!) there is no commitment implied, and you can set the emails to either not appear at all, come in a ‘digest’ format, or appear individually, so you can choose how to stay in touch. It would be very helpful if you could make an initial post introducing yourself and (if you have any ideas) suggesting which themes or theoretical approaches interest you and what type of events you would like to participate in, for example, conferences, workshops, or more informal get-togethers.

You can join the list by following this link You’ll need to either sign in with an existing google ID or create one, and request to join the group. We aim to approve that request the same day, and then you can dive into the discussions!

We look forward to talking to you!
